Summer endures – so no shiggy today
Great! A SH3 start only 40 minutes drive from home, making for an easy early arrival, joy however short-lived when the other early arrival, the GM told me I was to do the write-up.
There was a welcome return for Tosser, recently signed-off by the Grim Reaper as ‘not required yet’, though as the GM pointed out, there was a convenient graveyard just across the road… a couple of NH3 were also welcomed at the pre-run circle. When the hare announced we would have to climb over a locked gate, I looked around and thought ‘that’s going to be challenge for some’! And worse still it was a trail of 5 miles with no short cuts.
So off on the footpath through the graveyard, aka dog turd alley, out into open country with an increasing sense of reverse déjà-vu ( I’m beginning to think that this a function of having done too many runs/being too old), but at least I knew where the checks were going; pretty much straight-on at the first couple, albeit disguised by making them exceedingly long. Then on to aforementioned locked gate, to find, not ten feet away was a stile, thus we were deprived the OAP-locked-gate-high-hurdling-challenge. Hares note: better recceing required.
At the next check No Nookie was busy arranging an assignation with RHUM for early next Sunday morning as a way as co-opting him as her co-hare, so no scandal there… Then we passed the GOB* shack hosting their celebrations of holding up the traffic as much as possible on a Sunday morning. Around then the late arriving Blunders caught us up. By this this time the FRBs had long since disappeared into the distance and we came across the co-hare in a field who offered us no help.
At the pre-run circle the hare had told us the in/out trails were the same, so to stop at an X on the out-trail if we found it. This caught Ms Bean out on the in-trail, who had missed the circle so didn’t know what this X she’d found meant, and we were not slow in pointing out to her the value of arriving on time.
Back at the circle the GM berated the hares not laying at least 3 short cuts: the ‘it’s a hot day SC’, the ‘I can’t be arsed SC’ and ‘why do I bother?’ SC. These in the GM’s view are necessities for the hashers of more mature years, like himself. With Belcher away hunting for old jokes, Big Foot stood in as RA having been given 2 minutes notice, which meant, bereft of his trusty note book, his rhetoric was greatly reduced – to everyone’s relief. Down-downs for were mostly for lousy parking and LePro’s claimed 7 inches and refusing to prove it. A good hash but with a sense of uv ajèd! (I think it had worked better the other way round: see run 2246). [Blimey, Doug, that was over 8 years ago!]
