There’s flour here, and here. No, over here!
Gosh. I don’t remember any fog, but look at the pictures!
Did Masterbates have a filter on his lens? The big question on my mind, remembering a trail set by these demon hares was, “Would they lead us all the way down the hill and back up again before
starting the trail proper?” They didn’t. But they still tipped us the wink that they had something up their sleeves. Sure enough it was another cheeky back check and a return to the pub! From there the trail was well laid, at least for the first third. The checks worked quite well in keeping the pack together…. until they didn’t. Often there would be random calls and the the pack actually worked AS A TEAM to work out where
to proceed! On here! No, on here! Are You? On on! Proxy kept getting lost, but was reminded that it was better than his usual trick of geting lost when setting trails!
We headed past the two NT car parks on Headley Common, also freqented by these hares, but the main recollection was of a mega short trail set almost a year ago by you know who – Proxy!
As we headed up to Headley things went pear shaped. The pack fanned out in all directions and didn’t return, nor did they call!. Surely they couldn’t all be on trail. The brown line on the map was J Arthur’s trail. The red loop at the top was a bit he missed and the other red line is a path that I took with Belcher, FRB and a few others.
Belcher was probably worried that once again I was going to lead him to a prickly dead end. At the end of the red loop we could see and hear the “front runners” calling “On on” near to where I thought it went pear-shaped. Oddly they appeared to be going in the opposite direction! We did manage to pick up the trail again after scrambling up a thistly bank. Various others found alternative routes. Who knows where they went?
At the circle Proxy celebrated his 7oth
birthday, Belcher’s shaggy dog story was mercifully more short-haired

Feedback?
The format of your website and Runday Shags have been fairly settled for nearly 3 years now. We would love to receive feedback on any improvements you would like, new ideas, etc. Even what what you don’t need, e.g. too many links? Would you like different or information somewhere it might be easier to find?
Answers on a postcard to: onsec@surreyhashhouseharriers.com
I’m not sure why East Horsley is described as a “fairytale” village, perhaps it’s Flash’s influence, but there’s an interesting tour of newly re-opened underground tunnels and the Lovelace Bridges, etc. on 28 March.
See other versions of the trail in the pictures folder!
