A TALE OF THE MOLE AND THE RAT

The coolest morning for a week or so but it still felt ‘Hot’ as 35ish hashers gathered in a circle at The Rat pub. Hares, Mole and Fannysniffer had told us they were nervous and had set the trail at 5pm, the previous day, What could possibly go wrong?

The usual speedy athletes, RAndy Pandy, Loopy Lou proudly displaying her new porcupine tattoo, Atalanta and the returning Legolas tore off in front and sure enough blobs of flour looked ‘worn’ or in some cases ‘rubbed out’.  This was the theme throughout the four and a half miles of Surrey countryside.  Epsom racecourse appeared, a pack of us, JArthur, Blue Suit, SBJ, Loopy, and OITE, etc. ran across the course like Derby runners only to find ‘no flour’.

Barnes had run here on Wednesday, a couple of people informed the pack.  There was confusion until the hare, MoLE pointed us along the race course and back home via a well-deserved Sangria sip-stop, all forgiven back to the pub.

Petal received more hugs and kisses than he probably has ever before, though I wouldn’t know that for a fact.

So to the circle and down downs:

  • Petal being welcomed back
  • Legolas as a visitor
  • Veggie Queen being sang her birthday song
  • Atalanta for leaving her car running and doing her bit for the environment, and
  • Arfur Pint for telling Belcher and Veggie Queen they needed bigger car doors.

Thirsty hashers quickly filled the beer garden at this likeable Pub, probably for the last time as, sadly, it’s due to close down. Meanwhile the trendy foody pubs in the village will probably continue to do a busy trade.

Well!  There’s a happy note to END on.

  On On,

Editorial

It was good to be able to see you all at the Rat on Sunday (it beats the alternative).  I hope to join you on trail again before too long.  Hopefully Raffles won’t put on too much weight meanwhile!

Thanks to Jen & Dawn for keeping us supplied with baps & drinks.  Here’s their FB post.

Don’t forget next week’s picnic!  On On, Petal

Expect to receive a request for the balance of your payment soon.  We currently have one person wait-listed (sorry, Shiva) unless someone wants to offer to sleep on a sofa.

The hares’ version of the trail (not the one you did, Uncle Gerry!)

And the hares get their excuses in!

Today it seems that quite a bit of flour on the trail had been blown away causing havoc for the runners … we are used to it being washed away but not blown away … anyway we were going to set it in sawdust, which might have survived better, and which is what we did for Deepcut on July 1st, but Uncle Gerry who “ran” that trail was very scathing about the sawdust and said it was absolutely forbidden to lay a Surrey hash in sawdust … so don’t blame us!

On on, FS
